Description: | Binoy Kumar Sarkar was born in Malda. In 1901, he passed his Entrance examination from Malda District School and stood first. In 1905, he earned a double Honours degree in English and History from Presidency College and won the Ishan Scholarship. He completed his M.A. in 1906 and from that year, participated in the administrative work of the National Council of Education, Bengal. He taught Indian History, Economics, Geography, English, Modern European History and Political Science in Bengal National College and School, an institution founded by the National Council. In June 1907 he established the Jatiya Shiksha Samiti in Malda. Historian, economist and polyglot, Binoy Kumar Sarkar was member of the Dawn Society. He wrote several books on the subject of national education. In 1909, he was a researcher in Allahabad Panini Research Centre. From 1914 to 1915, he was abroad and taught at many universities. He was Professor of Economics at Calcutta University from 1926 to 1949. Founder of Dhanabigyan Parishad, Sarkar edited the monthly newspaper Aarthik Unnati. His books include Bange Nabajuger Nutan Shiksha, Shiksha Bigyaner Bhumika, Prachin Greece-er Jatiya Shiksha, Bhashashiksha, Lesson on English, Lesson on Sanskrit and Shikshasopan. |
