dc.descriptionBidhan Chandra Roy was born in Patna. In 1908, he took the M.D. degree from Calcutta Medical College. The following year, he went to England and took the M.R.C.P, M.R.C.M. and FR.C.M. degrees. On his return, he taught medicine at the Campbell Medical School and established himself as a leading physician in the city. He was elected member of Calcutta University Society in 1916. In 1942, he was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. From 1948 till his death in 1962, he was Chief Minister of West Bengal. Dr. Roy was Chairman of National Council of Education, Bengal, from 1944 to 1962.en_US
