Description:	Aurobindo Ghosh was a renowned political activist, philosopher and spiritual leader. He went abroad for his education at the age of seven. After successfully competing for the Indian Civil Service examination and taking the Tripos from Cambridge University, he returned to India in 1893, and was appointed Professor and then Principal at Baroda College. During his stay in Calcutta from 1905 to 1910, he was Principal of Bengal National College. Apart from teaching, he edited the English daily Vande Mataram (1906). He soon emerged as an important leader of the nationalist movement, and was prosecuted in the so-called Alipore 'bomb' case. After release, Ghosh concentrated on building nationalist organizations. His numerous works include The Life Divine, The Synthesis of Yoga, Essays on the Gita, The Human Cycle, The Future Poetry, Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol, and The Foundation of Indian Culture. In April 1910, he moved permanently to Pondicherry.
