Description: A member of the famous Basu Thakur family of Malkhanagar, district Dacca. Born on 22 October 1866. Father: Bhagawan Chandra Basu Thakur. Education at Presidency College. M.A. in 1887 and B.L. in 1888. The profession of a lawyer never attracted Satyananda. Already in 1886, he worked as a student volunteer when the All India National Congress held its 2nd conference at the Calcutta Town Hall. In 1904 he dedicated himself as a full-time political worker and got associated with several national movements. When the Bengal Technical Institute was founded by Taraknath Palit in July 1906, Satyananda Basu Thakur became the Joint Secretary of the College with Dr. Nilratan Sircar. For about four years the Bengal Technical Institute (BTT) functioned under the aegis of the Society for the Promotion of Technical Education. In May 1910 the BTI became a College of the National Council of Education, Bengal which, in 1928, was renamed as the College of Engineering and Technology (CET) which again became the Jadavpur University in 1955. Till his death in 1948. Satyananda Bose remained intimately associated with the activites of the National Council of Education, Bengal. He was the Honorary Secretary of the Council for about fourteen years (1932-1946) and was the Council's Vice-President for 1947-1948. He was Convener of the Special Committee with Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukhopadhyay as Chairman to probe into the causes of the 1939 student movement on the campus of the Jadavpur Engineering College. Satyananda Bose passed away on 4th July, 1948.
