Description: Father: Surya Kumar Sarbadhikari, a resident of Hooghly and a reputed physician. Deva Prasad got several scholarships and prizes in his examinations -Matriculation (1876), M.A. from Presidency College (1882) and Attorneyship (1888). Deva Prasad Sarbadhikari developed keen interest in political activities and became one of the most trusted fellow-workers of Surendranath Bandyopadhyay in his activities related to 'Bharat Sabha'. As a representative of the University of Calcutta he attended two conferences organized by the Universities of the Empire at London. In 1913 the Aberdeen University conferred upon him the degree of LL.D. honoris causa. He was the first non- government Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta (1914-1918). In 1925 the Government of India deputed him to collect information about Indians residing in South Africa. He was an important member of the Indian delegation to the League of Nations in 1930. He was also the Director of the Imperial (National) Library. Deva Prasad Sarbadhikari made significant contribution to the spread of Sanskrit and Bengali language in our country. He had close association with Bangiya Sahitya Parishad. He himself was an eminent writer. Deva Prasad Sarbadhikari passed away on 11th August, 1935.
