Established in 1957, Tarak Nath Das Research Centre (TNDRC) at Jadavpur University (JU), Kolkata has progressively transformed itself from tradition-bound newspaper clipping sections into a technology driven full-fledged information resource Centre. JU authorities, with direct financial contributions and academic inputs from Tarak Nath Das Foundation Fund, Columbia University, New York, USA, and constant support and encouragement of faculty members of our University, have redesigned the modest ground floor space of the PG (Arts) building into a vibrant research Centre. Right now, the Centre contains nearly nine thousand five hundred newspaper files, prepared from not less than twelve newspapers (mainly published in English) from all over India. Besides, on receipt of financial grant from UGC under ASHISS program during UGC-DSA phase III (2000-2005), the Centre has converted not less than six thousand files (1957-2006) into digitized form. Subsequently, subject files of five more years that is the year till 2011 have been converted into soft copies. Students, research scholars, faculty members, administrators, journalists, both from India and abroad, have visited this Centre over the last six decades, and, have been continuing to do so till date. It was reported in the E-Resource Procurement Committee dated 11.4.2023 that the digitized newspaper clippings (1957-2006) of the Taraknath Das Research Centre have been handed over to Central Library for uploading in the Institutional Repository for providing online access to the users.
