      <description>Title: Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray (2 August 1861-16 June 1944)
Description: Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray was born in Khulna. A famous chemist and teacher, he was one of the pioneers of the chemical industry in India. In 1879, he passed the Entrance examination from Calcutta Albert School. He went to Presidency College. However, he won the Gilchrist Scholarship before completing his course and left for England. In 1889, he received his doctoral degree and won the Hope Award from Edinburgh University. On his return, he joined the Chemistry Department of Presidency College as Assistant Professor and was subsequently appointed Chief Professor. After his retirement in 1916, he was appointed Palit Professor of Chemistry at Calcutta University. He continued to teach there till 1936. In 1901, Ray founded Bengal Chemical and Pharmaceutical Works, the first manufacturing factory of chemicals and medicine in India. He worked hard to encourage the use of the Bengali language in the study of the sciences. From 1924 to 1944, he was President of National Council of Education, Bengal. He wrote in Bengali and English. His books include Bangali-r Mastishka o Tahar Apobyabohar, Anna Samasyay Bangali-r Porajoy o Tahar Protikar and History of Hindu Chemistry.</description>

      <description>Title: Maharaja Suryakanta Acharya Chowdhuri (1851-1908)
Description: Maharaja Suryakanta Acharya Chowdhuri was born in Muktagachha in Mymensingh. During the movement against the Partition of Bengal and in subsequent nationalist agitations, he helped the revolutionaries in countless ways. His donations funded many educational institutions and hospitals. A member of the Trustee Board of the National Council of Education, Bengal, he directed its course as Vice-Chairman from 1906 to 1908. On 14 August 1906, he attended the inaugural ceremony, held at Calcutta Town Hall, of Bengal National College, an institution of which he was one of the shaping spirits.</description>

Description: Rashbehari Ghosh was born in the village of Khandaghosh in the district of Barddhaman. He went to a local school and Barddhaman Collegiate School, and took his Entrance examination in 1860 from Bankura High School. Ghosh stood first in the F.A. examination in 1862, and second in the B.A. examination, which he took from Presidency College, in 1865. He was the first Indian to pass in the First Class in English in 1866. A gold medalist in the Law examinations (1867), Ghosh taught English and Mathematics for a while in Berhampore College. He started legal practice in 1872 at the High Court in Calcutta, where Sir Ashutosh and Dr. Rajendra Prasad were his colleagues, and soon established himself as a reputed lawyer. In 1875 he was appointed Tagore Law Professor at Calcutta University. His lectures on the law of mortgage in India were subsequently published as a book. Apart from the titles of D.L. (1894) and C.I.E. (1896), he was also conferred an honorary Ph.D. degree in 1913 by Calcutta University and a knighthood in 1915. He was a renowned philanthropist and was an enthusiast in matters of education. Rashbehari Ghosh donated Rupees 22 lakhs to Calcutta University, and was the principal financial benefactor of National Council of Education, Bengal (Bangiya Jatiya Shiksha Parishad), the organization from which Jadavpur University claims descent. He remained Founder- Chairman of the Council till his death in 1921.</description>

Description: Only son of Ramchandra Banerjee-a poor learned Brahmin clerk who died when Gooroodas was about 3 years old. Born in Calcutta on 26th January 1844, completed 8 years' School Course in 3 years by double promotions. Passed Entrance Examination in 1859 and First Arts Examination, standing first, in 1862. Stood first in Bachelor of Arts Examination in 1864.Passed M.A. in Mathematics standing first. Joined Presidency College as Professor of Mathematics after B.A.- confirmed in service after M.A. 1866- passed B.L. and joined Berhampore College as Professor of Law and also practice Law - shone brilliantly in both. Joined Calcutta High Court in 1872. Continued legal studies and in 1876 became Doctor of Law. 1878 - joined Calcutta University as Tagore Law Lecturer. 1887 - nominated member of Bengal Legislative Council. 1888 -Judge Calcutta High Court which office he filled with distinction for 16 years. 1890 - Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. One of the leading founders of the National Council of Education - influential member of Executive Committee and Managing Committee till the end of his life.</description>
